Quite often, I suffer from little bouts of envy, archive envy. I look at the blog’s sidebar and count the years backwards. Although they span a three year period, cbmused has only been in existence for eighteen months. While the past belongs in buried archives, I must acknowledge it with more than a passing nod or a wink.

And I will.

This post marks a major and personal milestone – the one thousandth post I have written on a public blog.

Once upon a time, before a slippery fairy tale was recounted, the sea breeze whispered like a gentle caress and grains of sand gathered to form a few letters. Letters became words, phrases gave life to sentences and blog posts were born.

That was way too many moons ago.

A different time. A different place. A different mindset.

A lifetime ago. Five and a half years ago.

Looking ahead, I see that the future of cbmused is undecided. I may continue in the same vein. I may post intermittently. I may reinvent it in another form. Or I may soon retire. For the time being, I will draw a line in the sand then take a leaf out of the open book  and let the ocean breeze guide me forward.

But today, I raise a toast to the power of the written word:
To One Thousand Martinis in the Sand.

That’s a lot of martinis to drink down. But we shall do it as it should be, one glass at a time, as the next one comes by.
Three cheers for Cléa and her thousandth martini!

  2. Grad School Reject says:

Thank you for these martinis.  I have enjoyed every single one.  Please keep them coming, and if at some point ‘last call’ is on the horizon, be sure to give us all some warning so we can order an extra glass before close.

  3. Cléa says:

Kami: Thanks for all your support over the years. The Martinis won’t stop, even if cbmused does.

GSR: Thank you for coming back here, time and time again, particuarly since you have stopped/slowed down your blogging.  I may soon be joining you. I’m not sure if this is the last call, so I’ll leave it open-ended.

A grand toast to you Cléa, not just to 1000 posts, but to the thousands of phrases, and tens of thousands of your words I have enjoyed so much. Cheers! :D

  5. SM says:

Congrats on 1k martinis! I’ve enjoyed each and every one!!! And whatever you decide to do you know we all will be along for the ride!!!!

  6. Cléa says:

Gboy: Thank you kindly, and for your comments over the years that have sparked much thought provocation. When you put it that way, it seems such a large number. I think we forget that comment replies advance the posts, so I’d hate to think what that would add up to!

SM: I’m ever so glad you’ve played a major part of the ride. Thank you for the positive influence you’ve had, I’ll always remember it.

We humans dwell too much on our base ten system at the exclusion of others.  What I’m saying is that there is just as much reason to celebrate 1001, 1002, and 1028.  In fact, I have a feeling that you may—with martinis of course.  In the meantime, I think I’ve found the reason I needed to crack open a cold one this evening.  Congrats!

  8. Cléa says:

Peefer: I’ll be cracking one as well this evening, and I agree that we out too much emphasis on round figures, when round figures +1 are more reason to celebrate. Thank you for all your insights over time. I’m not sure about the future, only the Martinis.

Hi Peefer. This is a hello and not a goodbye.

  9. Mrs. Mahd says:

I think you are fabulous, what you write is fabulous and martinis…well, to be honest are not fabulous.  That said, your personal “martinis” are the sweetest drink I’ve ever had and I may have become an alcoholic.

  10. Cléa says:

Mrs Mahd: I think it is you who are a wonderful person. I am very humbled by your comment and I thank you for your continued support over the years.
