Scoring O Eight

Home, Bricks and Mortar
It has been the year of change and makeovers notwithstanding the accompanying stress. The result is more than aesthetics and there is more to come in 09.
Score = 7.8/10

Work, Career and Finance
Much uncertainty hung over in 08 and will continue into 09. This is the time when I need a crystal ball to guide me in a direction. Or tell me I’m just a dreamer.
Score = 3.2/10

Family
Despite a recent scare, I’m ever so grateful for having him with us. And with the recent arrival of his cuteness, and the ever charming older version, I have reasons to smile.
Score = 9/10

Health
Bring on ‘09 and optimism. Pronto.
Score = 3/10

Love, Relationships and Star Signs
There are times when you sunbathe and let the sun warm your soul. Other times you don your gloves, winter coat and long boots, and kick fate in the arse.
Score = 6/10

General well-being and feel good factor
Like swings of the pendulum, they never stay still at one point.
Score = 5.7/10

Friendships and True Colours
A mixed bag emerged in 08. A best friend was exed. A strong friendship shone all year like a bauble at Christmas time. A long-term friendship was rekindled, with equal enthusiasm from both sides. A beautiful friendship developed and strengthened like the blues of the ocean under sunny skies. One special friendship that I’ve always wanted to keep as a constant has somewhat changed; not for the better or for the worse, just changed.
Score = 6.7/10

Writing
With attaining the first draft of the novel, continuing with this blog after its one year blogaversary, and another private project that came to fruition, my Muse has kept me busy and inspired.
Score = 9/10

Highlights, Surprises and Disappointments
Two holiday plans didn’t eventuate. It was a year of lull but it was punctuated by an unexpected visit from a distant friend I hold dearly.
Score = 5/10

Blogging
Deserves its own score, for having taking me on a full rollercoaster ride and back again to build my own track, one post at a time. Despite some disappointments and not-so-good changes to the medium, endurance is the word.
Score = 5/10

Final Score for 08:
60.4/100

    Can you share how your scoring system worked?  I question you losing a point in writing, but I’ll take you at your word if you feel good about the score.

    Here is wishing you all the best in ‘09!  I can’t wait to see what you do next :)

    • Cléa says:

      GSR: Is this the teacher asking? :P And what is your score?
      I wasted time when it came to writing, and well, nothing is perfect hence not a 10 But I feel very good about the writing score.

      And all the best to you in ‘09, GSR, with much happiness your way :)

  2. Die Muräne says:

    68 points. Not bad in the end. So things just didn’t work out fast enough :)
    Even thought these parts of my life were still ‘more or less’ okay, I wish positive changes would be possible easier. Otherwise I feel like ’stuck’.

  3. Cléa says:

    Die Murane: 68 is better than mine, that scores a Credit in terms of university grades.
    I know what you mean about feeling stuck when things don’t happen fast enough. As long as there is some momentum, then the overall feeling is positive.

  4. Score for Clea

    From the time that I’ve gotten to know you, I am positive of five things where you are concerned: loyal, loving, strong, creative, pervy.

    Loyal because of the way that you talk of your family and friendships – those that were lost and how they took a hit to your soul and those that you remain close with.

    Loving because of the way that you look at life with such optimism.  Only a person with a pure and huge heart can do that.

    Strong because no matter what life has thrown your way, you seem to come out on top and always look at the silver lining.

    Your creativity speaks for itself.  Through your words and your photos and even how you’ve encompassed a feeling of “home” with your blog.

    Pervy because, well … come on.  Anyone who reads this blog knows why!

    Your score: 10/10 hands down.

    I can’t wait to see what 2009 has in store for you.

    EM: I’m… speechless. I’ve been trying to think of a reply all day and I don’t think I could do your comment justice. I’m simply blown away at the thought that you can deduce so much about me and my feelings on certain aspects of life without having met.  That, in itself, is a wonderful trait you have in you. There are things that you’ve said that are so close to my heart, and I’m very touched that you were able to discern them.

    You, are a true gem.

    Gboy: Thanks for doing this!

    When I looked at where you scored low, Work, Career and Finance, Writing and Blogging and compare it to the high scores, Family, Health, Friendships, Highlights, I feel your score should be bumped up since the latter are more important in life. Well done, and congratulations on all the good that gave your 2008 high scores :)

  7. Lil Bit says:

    I thought about doing a year in review, but wasn’t really sure how to do it … What an AWESOME way you did yours!
    Your score is higher than mine but I can always wish higher numbers for us both in 2009!
    *big hugs* and *ting* of my glass to yours for the New Year! =)

  8. SM says:

    I love this!  I have to say that 08 was much better for me than 07.  And if I did your scoring system, I’m pretty sure that it would back me up with that statement.

    Are you happy with a 60.4?  What would be ideal (and realistic)?  Is 100 even attainable?  I only ask because I’m not sure I’d believe anyone if they said their year was absolutely perfect on all levels.  But who knows!  Maybe some people can truly claim that.

    I hope you have a wonderful 2009, Clea (I still haven’t figured out how to do the e thingie on my mac…)

  9. Cléa says:

    LB: The idea came to me in the shower… of all places.
    Here’s to top scores for us in ‘09! And cheers to you :)

    SM: Glad to hear 08 was great for you. It is much deserved :) .
    These are good questions.
    Are you happy with a 60.4?
    No. Work, health, relationships and general well-being should have scored higher.
    What would be ideal (and realistic)?
    Anything in the 80s, to keep it realistic.
    Is 100 even attainable?
    No. There are impossibilities that I still want. They will never happen, hence that’s what the 10/10 score is reserved for.

    I doubt anyone can claim 100 as it related to events during the entire year. Even the areas that got a 9/10, I couldn’t award a 10 for.

    And the same happy ‘09 to you, SM!
    (and don’t worry about the é, it’s not important!)

  10. egan says:

    I thought there might be music to accompany the fireworks.  Oh no, I got to go now.  Man boobs.

    Anyways, I think you’re very tough on yourself, but aren’t most of us.  You’re happy with your score though and that’s what counts.  I’m happy about your novel, although I still haven’t done my part.  Enjoy the rest of your New Year’s Eve.

  11. Cléa says:

    Egan: Unfortunately, the special effects didn’t come with audio.

    And you’re right about being tough on myself, that’s because I had better expectations of ‘08. I’m happy with the writing score, but not the overall score. But as they say, c’est la vie.

    And a happy one to you too.

  12. egan says:

    I think you and I share a mutual disdain for our blogging output.  Let’s work together to change this in the next 364 days.

  13. Cléa says:

    Egan: I’m counting on quality rather than quantity from my part. Let’s do it!
