On the Dance Floor

He took me by the hand and led me to dance. Once he is in the mood, there is no point resisting. It’s what we do.

We both moved to the lively beat occasionally singing along. He looked so happy and gave him one of his unforgettable smiles.

He then looked up at me, dropped his gaze to my skirt and long boots then up again, and without missing a dance step, he said in his best voice, “I like your skirt, Cléa.”

And left me completely gobsmacked.

Clearly he takes after his wicked aunty. But aren’t two and a half year old boys a little young to notice skirts?

There a few things you better learn early in life… ;-)

  2. Kamigoroshi says:

Well, no one said they can’t start out young. :)

I’ll bet I would have liked your skirt too Cléa. :)

  3. Aww and here I was thinking it was a new love interest … nephews are so cute!

  4. Cléa says:

Sidney: I’m waiting for the time he teaches me a thing or two! ;)

Kami: But at 2 1/2? I don’t remember what boys were at that age!
Maybe… but you wouldn’t have said it!

EM: It was so cute! And he sounded like a genuine adult compliment. The girls will certainly love him!

  5. Kamigoroshi says:

Oh yes I might probably have said it. I was a pretty honest little runt myself too.

Sad that it’s not as cute when you say it now though.

  6. Mrs. Mahd says:

There’s this reality TV show called Jon & Kate Plus 8 about this family with twins and sextuplets. It’s my favorite show. One of the little boys, Joel, always notices things about people. Kate says that ever since he was really young (they are 4 now) he would notice when she got her toes painted and would sit and touch them forever. He always notices people’s hair and clothes and once asked his mom if he could smell her face. Kids are strange.

Kami: Now you got me thinking about how open we are when we’re young, and how we watch what we say as we get older, and how compliments tend to be weighed. Innocence is such a fleeting phase.

Mrs Mahd: How cute. I don’t remember much of what I was like at that age. My nephew is open with compliments and he says lovely things out of the blue which is so genuine. Sad how we lose that spontenaety as we get older, though I try to say good things to people whenever I can.

  8. Eric1313 says:

He had a good teacher somewhere who taught him to be receptive to people. And he learned that lesson well.

  9. SM says:

Very smart kid…this knowledge will help him later in life with the ladies. Trust me…I married a guy who used to notice stuff like that and it’s one of the many things I appreciate about him.

  10. Casey says:

I think that was the age when I started.

  11. Mrs. Mahd says:

I think it’s important to tell people when you think they look nice or things along those lines. I think it makes everyone happier!

  12. Cléa says:

Eric: In that case, my compliments go to his mum. She’s teaching him fine manners.

SM: Oooh…. how sweet! Funny to imagine them as grown men when they’re only toddlers…

Casey: On my! I don;t think I have a memory at that age. And certainly nothing to do with boys. And if he follows in your path with the ladies…

Mrs Mahd: Not many people take the time to do that. Imagine how happy we’d be when we’re told something nice, and we know it’s genuine.

  13. Lil Bit says:

    Aww, too cute! =)
    But wait, your nephew’s 2 1/2 already? … wasn’t he JUST born a few months ago? ;)

  14. Cléa says:

LB: Glad someone is paying attention!
Spot on! My posts aren’t like the Bold and Beautiful, where people are born one minute then they’re marrying someone the next. This is another nephew of course. Nice to be surrounded by boys!

  15. egan says:

I don’t think I knew the difference between skirts and dresses until I started blogging. Your nephew has the best auntie.

  16. Cléa says:

Egan: And I wonder which bit I contributed to…

Oh this is too good a comment. Straight into the Martini Lounge for you!

  17. gboy says:

When I was that age I was able to spot people I thought were nice, who would be kind to me. But chatting up ladies? No… I wasn’t that advanced! :P

  18. [...] I’m ever so grateful for having him with us. And with the recent arrival of his cuteness, and the ever charming older version, I have reasons to smile. Score = [...]
