Unexpected Flare

A news items instinctively catches my attention, drawing me like a moth to a flame. An unexpected sight, a repressed state. And suddenly memories and their related emotions stir from their dormant state. The mind defies all logic, allowing itself a few seconds of possibilities and then… it slaps itself into reality.

No. That time is over. Gone. Forever.

Something spoken in passing leaves a scorching mark. It stings and burns from an unexpected flare. An unprecedented incidence, an unwanted circumstance. And suddenly emotions that have been meticulously filed away resurface and gnaw at the core.

The burn was never skin deep.

Damn those memories and archived feelings.
Damn the injustices that call themselves fate.

The resultant jumble, eventually, becomes you.

And life goes on and on.

Whether we do something about it or not. Whether we become more or less of the people we are.

    Life goes on.

What you are describing (I think) really is unsettling.  I used to think that having moments like these occur in my dreams were bad, but the real life experiences really seem to smack me in the face.

Hmmm. I think I know this feeling. You forget about what causes it for days… weeks… months… then  something happens. It feels like something ran up behind you, grabbed your shoulder and spun you around while you were peacefully going about your business. It really, really destroys your day… sometimes your week. It’s hard not to turn in on yourself when it happens.

You have to remember there are people that take you, jumble and all… even if they don’t quite understand. :)

Some flares erupt then die to a fizzle. Others just go away for now but will eventually return.

Thank you for your kind comments.
