mm9.jpgMartini Moments… Just Because I Need Them

1. After careful observation on Saturday night, I have come to the realisation that a lot of girls live on air, alcohol and the occasional recreational hit. At their age and with their stick-like figures, they most certainly don’t eat.

2. When bloggers’ block strikes but the will and inspiration are there, it is best to focus the energy on other forms of writing. Too many projects can stifle creativity when there are only so many hours in the waking day.

3. Emotions have a way of flowing and taking form, be it a special look, a heart-warming smile, an appreciative gesture or a river of words that leave you feeling cool and refreshed.

4. Recently I’ve pondered if each person is meant to have a purpose in life, and how that purpose is identified then realised. Does the fact that a one wakes up to a purpose makes one strive to make it happen, or does the search for a purpose creates one? Either this is a chicken and egg scenario or my brain has just exploded.

5. Having a to-do list that grows by the minute, inducing more panic as items don’t get completed or crossed off, means it is time to set some priorities. Or to stop making lists. Busy times and multitasking do not always reap closure.

6. When you’re feeling down and out, and you’ve reluctantly sought an empathetic ear, there is a major difference between someone reminding you of all the good in your life and someone telling you that you have no right to be down. The difference can strip them down to their true colours.

7. There is something absolutely decadent about having a Martini at three pm with a good friend, just for the heck of it. Just like having more than the customary 5 Martini Moments, life is to be enjoyed without too many rules.

    1. The price of modern culture is its ability to define a person’s sense of what’s good and what’s just pushing it. To be pretty and to have fun in this case could very well kill you.
    2. Another way of saying when you’ve got a lot on your plate to handle, the best thing you can do is to sit back and take deep breath. In my words, nothing like bourbon on the porch those words together.
    3. The greatest thing in the world to feel, much opposed to another way for the heart to bleed.
    4. I’ve always thought that the search for a purpose creates one in itself. It is that quest to find meaning in your life that defines it with the experiences you live by as you walk long that path. That eventual definition becomes who we are and upon that, what we want to do in our lives.
    5. Multitasking is the name of the game for me. To counter the every building list of things to do, sometimes I feel that I have to be at 3 places at once. Of course, at the end of it, priorities come first. always best to do what you can do rather than worrying on what you should be doing. End results are what matters, everything else that happens in between will soon be a passing memory.
    6. So true. So very true.
    7. There are no rules in life save for the ones we enforce on ourselves. Decadence be damned. Life’s too short not to enjoy a drink with a friend in the middle of the afternoon. It’s something we should all strive to have every once in a while.

    1. “recreational hit”? you mean Tennis, right? Of course you do…
    2. I think there is an inverse relationship between availaible blogging time and things to blog about.
    3. Yes, unless resentment rides high… then they won’t grow. Or maybe I am just thinking of a song I heard somewhere…
    4. I am chuckling because all I can think of is the scene in the Steve Martin movie “The Jerk”, where he finds his “special purpose” ;). But seriously, I do believe some people feel that “calling”, and that drives them to do what they do… but personally… I have never felt it ( have you? ). I also know A LOT of people who still don’t really know what it is they want to do, and it’s not for any want of ambition or drive. They just don’t feel any passion for the path they have chosen - they do what they do because they can. It makes me sad and I wish I could help them ( and in some cases I have tried and failed ), but I think it’s just one of those things people have to work out for themselves.
    5. Ugggghh… my list is buried under several other lists… and there it shall stay for now…
    6. Let me guess… the first was a guy and the second wasn’t? We always try and fix stuff, huh? Mmm.
    7. Hear hear! :)

    Kami:
    1. The thing is, they believe they look good, and men turn their heads.
    2. Sadly no time for that :(. Have lots of work to do.
    4. In other words, seek and you shall find.
    5. Nothing beats achievements though.
    7. Can’t say no to that!

    Gboy:
    1. But of course, tiny rounded balls that get swallowed…
    2. Hmm… My mind is busy elsewhere, and there are deadlines…
    3. Ah yes, once resentment sets in, so hard to break from it. Lesson: if you care, don’t let resentment happen.
    4. I’m not. I don’t believe we all have a purpose. But recent events and some good doings made me think that possibly I have a role to fulfil, to [something] instead of [something]. Sorry if this is vague. Do you have one?
    5. Where are the matches to have a bonfire?!
    6. Both girls. First was ‘best friend’, grrr, second was another. I don’t mind men who try to fix it, since I do the same!

  4. Kamigoroshi says:

    1. That’s culture for you. “Do this and you’ll meet a supermodel.” “Do this and you’ll be a supermodel.”
    2. Then at least at the end of the day unwind and take a much deserved break. Hard to work later on when our mind’s just not with us.
    4. Some of us discover our own purposes in our lives. Some of us are part of a purpose unknown to themselves. I believe that we can either let life lead us along, or lead our own selves along. To seek. To be aware. To understand. To embrace. That’s all part of a greater existence. One that possibly can’t come into fruit unless we know something is missing from our life.
    5. That’s what end results are for. :)

An appletini a day keeps the doctor away.

  6. Sicilian Mama says:

#4 - These kinds of thoughts make my brain hurt. Really, really hurt.

#6 - I never thought of this, but it’s very true. The approach in how they deal with you when you’re feeling down really makes all the difference!

#7 - Amen! This right here is why I had myself a delicious cold-cut sandwich last Friday. The pregnancy rules state that I shouldn’t eat such things, but my belly disagreed. It was oh-so yummy.

  7. Josh Williams says:

Cheers, I think I will celebrate cinco de mayo with a beer, maybe imported, maybe a micro brew and maybe not just one.

  8. gboy says:

    to [something] instead of [something]
Vague? Nnnnnnoooooooooooooooooo! Not at all. :P

Do I have one? A special Porpoise? No, not really, not even a vocation, or an overwhelming desire to do [something] for [somebody]. :) I have one major thing I do that could be defined as charity, but only in the sense that no-one pays me to do it, and a lot of people thank me for doing it ( and a small handful groan, but you have to expect that! ). Call it a labour of love if you like. I do. :)

  9. Essentially Me says:

I like your number 6 thought. So very true …

    … and I think I want a martini at 3pm now.

  10. Cléa says:

    Kami:
1 – Bah. Curves are much more feminine than straight lines.
4 – While this is not my dictum, I have respect for it. But I’m not that spiritual.

ZW: I’ve never tried one but I had Porn Star Martini on the weekend. And it was wicked!!!

    Sicilian:
4 – Maybe that’s why we avoid them, easier to just do what feels right.
6 – Absolutely, and I say reluctantly ask, because I keep a lot inside and thought it best to unload but oh no.
7 – Something about tasting the forbidden that feels so good!

JW: That’s what I call getting into the spirit! Pun and all :)

Gboy: Thought you’d like that! :P
No Porpoise? It’s still something that you willingly do, and I’m sure it’s valued. As for questioning a higher purpose in the Porpoise, that’s when my brain hurts.

EM: Re #6, it has taught me not to go to that person, no matter how low I may be. Sometimes it’s best keeping things to yourself, even when you’re going to explode.

    I’ll join you in one!

    Here here to #7!!

  12. Cléa says:

Felix for Zosia: Cheers to that, at least it’s lunchtime!

[…] and deliver the coup de grace to the best friend status, occurred not so long ago. I alluded to it here in #6. I was at a very low point and realising the state of mind I was in, I pushed myself to talk […]
