Circular Logic
CBMUSED at 8:53 am Category: Blue Ink, GeneralTags: 800, brain teaser, cbmused
Cryptic. Masonic. Elusive.
The new sudoku? A brain teaser? A tease?
762 + 38 = 800
2. (10/12) + 0. (2/12) + 0. (0.5/12) = 3. 1
208,867 + 1,013 + 999 = 210,879
3.1 + 210,879 => 800
If
Arithmetic equates to Logic
and
Logic yields to Creativity
and
Creativity results in Numbers
and
Numbers mean Arithmetic
Then
Vodka + Dry Vermouth => Martini
Else
Rum + Muddled Lime + Mint + Soda => Mojito
End If
Result:
800 => Martinis

Is this what you dream about? And I was all excited too.
Logic is way overrated. A good martini is not. The right dream, never.

See at this point, I’m going to need a whole lot of Martinis before I can understand that little math equation.
Cause and solution to all of life’s problems?
You betcha.

But, logic, like Martinis, loses its beneficial effect when taken in too large quantities. ~Edward Dunsany-

Trée: oh no… I’d rather dream of other pleasures than cracking a puzzle! And I wholeheartedly agree, a good Martini is never overrated.
Kamigoroshi: Cause and solution to the right ingredients for a good Martini. It’s all to do with the right numbers!
Another one?
Sidney: ah yes, I like that one! But do we need logic in celebration? I think I need another dry Martini to work that one out…
February 18th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Ai, that hurt my head. Now I need a drink.
February 18th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Right numbers at the right place at the right time. Does this call for more than just Martinis?
Most definitely.
Now click those glasses and give it a whirl. Sip it down and cheer for the world.
Don’t you just love a good day?
February 18th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
I’m pretty sure you forgot to include the imaginary number in the equation that makes it all work out.
I’ll also say that working out that puzzle is deserving of a hearty and well-deserved congratulations.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Felix for Zosia: come to think of it, mine too. A round of Martinis coming up!
Kamigoroshi: mojitos perhaps?
Clinking back atcha!
GSR: ah yes, trust your super special powers to find it
I would second that! Not an easy puzzle to work out, so here’s to the ‘imaginary’ part of your equation!
February 18th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
This would make perfect sense in a dream.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Gorilla B: ah true, but would the Martinis taste the same?
February 19th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Now there is something to try. Something sweet. Something sour. Something to keeping drinking hour after hour.

That brought back bad memories of a C++ class I had in college. Man, I hate programming.
if(then-(”you’re right”). . . .(else)”I have no idea what you’re talking about”);
end:
that’s not even close to being the right code. . . . . 5 years since I programmed anything other than my VCR.
February 19th, 2008 at 9:28 am
Oh god this takes me back, to when I was trying to figure out Laplace Transforms. It’s like “wait… I’m stepping what now in the who domain?”, as my eyes glaze over.
Years later, and looking at it from an entirely different and practical perspective, suddenly I’m slapping myself in the forehead, exclaiming “Of course! You idiot!”.
I suspect this excercise will be similar… just hopefully in less time. LOL
February 19th, 2008 at 9:49 am
Kamigoroshi: you should write poetry!
And I’ll tell you a little secret, one Mojito is never enough…Hic!
Spiffy: loved the part about the VCR!
Sorry about the bad memories.
If
Consider you’ve been told
then
the answer is 800. Instead of the “I have no idea what you’re talking about”
else
I can always email you the secret logic
End If
Any better?
GBoy: the who what transformers?
OK… I deserved that!
Methinks GBoy has figured out Cléa’s Code…
February 19th, 2008 at 10:00 am
OK, the result am am pretty confident I understand ( but I shant reveal it here so as not to spoil it for anyone else ). The larger numbers could be word counts. Possibly.
The smaller numbers could be ratios. I wondered if they were mixing ratios… but they would be rather strange if that was the case!
And then there’s the proximity of their sum to the constant Pi. Perhaps another obilque circular reference? Hmmm. Need more coffee.
February 19th, 2008 at 10:16 am
GBoy: oooh… he’s getting closer! Ratios, time span, blog-time continuum… Dr Who on the brain. Brain hurts. But Pi? You are good!
Extra points for mentioning… something.
This adds another line to the equation:
235,691 + 9,601 = 245,292
And coffee is on me!
February 20th, 2008 at 9:34 am
I just realized the amount of grammatical I keep writing in the comments. I must have been a little more tipsy than I thought.
February 20th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Kamigoroshi: I didn’t even notice! But keep on blaming the alcohol… that’s what I do!
