Mmmm…Mwah!

During the holiday season, smooching and lip locking have been abundant. Not only confined to family and close friends during this time of the year, kissing has even broken pre-set boundaries at work. And there hasn’t been one mistletoe in sight.

But what does it mean when a person approaches you for a kiss, not quite on the cheek, not quite on the mouth, but one that lands somewhere in between? Is it a case of indecision, waiting for you to respond first? Does it depend on who the kisser is, say, is it different from your closest male (gay) friend than from a distant (non-blood) relative or even a co-worker? Or it about the context in which the kiss is given?

As for me, I prefer the direct approach. Always go straight for the kill kiss. When it comes to smooch-indecisionTM, the only message I receive is that of, “I’d like to kiss you on the lips but I better not/will not/dare not.”

Your opinion?

Happy Smooching in 2008!

I think alcohol always makes things a bit sketchier. When alcohol is involved you can’t really know what’s going on. Sometimes it gives courage to do the things you want to do, sometimes it just makes you do things that well..quite frankly you’d rather not count towards your life score, and other times it makes you just act like an arse. It’s the silly season after all.

But the middle kiss.. I think it’s a sort of indecision or hesitation.

    happy ny btw ;)

Yeah, the middle one is the “I’m afraid, but here goes nothing” kiss.

Me? I like to go straight for the kiss. As long as the recipient wants it (and why else would they have their arms around you?)it’s all good.

Love the TM! Great little piece of intellectual property.

Well, I’ve been putting odd my party for long enough. Later!

M: I can attribute some of it to alcohol, but not all since nobody was really off their face. Maybe it just ‘loosened’ some inhibitions…

M: you too! May all your smooching be memorable ;).

Eric: that’s exactly what it is, a ‘nothing’ kiss. May as well give an air kiss… well, maybe not!

The TM kinda snuck in there… then I thought, why not!

Hope the party was a blast!

What if the person goes in directly for a nibble on the earlobe? Does that send a clear enough message?

  6. Bemused says:

GSR: the message is loud and clear. This person obviously has vampiric intentions so better bite them first!

Ooooooh, I have already written about this very topic, and its relation to the night in question… but I digress!

What about the “deliberate accident” scenario? Where it was meant to be a sort of “just on the edge of the lips but mostly on the cheek” but was instead about 80% on the lips? I mean, there’s a grey area there, isn’t there? Somewhere between 60% and 80% I’d say is in the “whoaaa… hang on… what just happened there?” zone. LOL

I charge $25 per kiss. And you better believe it’s worth it, babe!
    (puts collar up)

  9. Bemused says:

GB: Oooh… the deliberate accident or the wtf moment, or wow… do that again. They leave you wondering… and depending on the person, ie not your gay male friend or distant blood relative, it can leave you thinking tingly. Yes, I said ‘thinking’ tingly… :P

Jarod: and of course all of it goes to charity? :P
